Happy Holidays, What’s Your Name?

Happy Holidays, What’s Your Name?

December 26, 2007 ( 13 )

First of all, hope everyone is enjoying doing what they are doing for the holidays, if in fact you’re celebrating holidays. If you’re not, I hope you are at least, unlike me, spending time away from the computer.

Now that it’s almost over, I’m happy to say 2007 was a good and productive year. I re-launched the design, wrote some posts and articles which found their way into Smashing Magazine, and released a Wordpress theme that’s logged better stats than I would’ve predicted while attracting a nice community of users. Kila Morton also did a very generous review over at her new site, PureBlogic.

Now that the insufferable-and-shameless-bragging section of this post is out of the way, I’d like to find out more about who reads this blog. According to Feedburner, there are about 400 subscribers, but I’ve only met a small handful. Introduce yourself, say hi, link to your blog, make yourself known in the comments section. I’d also love to know how you found the site in the first place.

Found you while feeding my addiction to blogs. I was probably searching Wordpress and came across your template. Hope you had a nice holiday!

  2. Stumbled upon you with a “wordpress magazine” search. REALLY liked mimbo 2.2, and will be using it shortly. Our redesign is currently under development at donigreenberg.com/dev_jg but within a few weeks our site will be based upon mimbo. I continue to be amazed at what’s possible using Wordpress (and your theme, and great plugins). I expected to need to migrate to a CMS to get the results I need, but so far, I’ve found what I need here.

Originally found you off a link highlighting WP magazine themes - think it was via Theme Playground - and fell in love with Mimbo. Will be looking to use on a new project in ‘08.

In terms of who I am, well I’m an actor based in the UK and I run a handful of websites to make a few dollars on the side. I’m thinking of using Mimbo for a UK based entertainment based project so I’ll let you know once it’s up so you can have a look around.

    Cheers!

I am a MIMBO fan who has stuck around - interesting blog

Are you still planning a premium version?

Seems like many people came here from Mimbo, I’m one as well. I’m new around here, though, so I’m still in the process of discovering your collection of articles.

    Cheers!

Found the place looking around aimlessly for a magazine-type theme for a site (bgsusports.com) I have built in Mambo, but got a little distressed at the clunkyness (and increasingly unsupportedness) of that CMS and wanted to try to recreate it somewhat in WP. In time, I think Mimbo will handle that, so here I am… The continuing “here’s how this works” tips about WP and design in general on your blog have gotten my head churning more than just about any forum I’ve been apart of. Thanks again!

As far as me, the person… I write web content for a network affiliate in Indianapolis, and do some design work on the side, but never to the best of my ability, I’m afraid. WordPress is slowly helping out with a lot of that, and Mimbo is helping on top of it all! It’s also about time for my third consecutive “I should write on my blog more” new years resolution…

    Happy Holidays, Darren!

I am subscribed to your blog from July 07. I forgot from where I got the link to your post (http://www.darrenhoyt.com/2007/07/24/in-praise-of-wordpress-template-tags-part-ii-the-magazine-layout/). I read this post, then looked around and found that you had some good WordPress related articles and I immediately added your feed to Google Reader.

As far as me, I am a web developer from India. I love WordPress and I have been doing WordPress related work for my clients as a side job. I am planning to become a full-time freelancer sometime in 2008.

    Happy Holidays, Darren!

  9. I think I found your site when I was looking for a “magazine style” theme for my blog — I believe I searched for “wordpress magazine theme” in Google. I had seen several others, but Mimbo really stuck out as a winner. I’ve been a fan ever since.

Not sure exactly how I found you. It was one of the following: searching Google for “wordpress as cms;” searching Google for “wordpress magazine layout;” or linking from the Minnehaha Project or something similar.

  11. Hey Darren… found you while looking for a WP theme for my church website. Been trying to tweak it for our needs for about a month now. Great theme! love it. I don’t know CSS so it’s been challenging but your forum has been loads of help.

the site I’ve been testing on is: seekingequanimity.com
but once we go live with it and all the bugs are worked out it will go on our real website:
    http://manybeliefs.org

Happy New Year to you and yours.

I found your blog via dzone.com (digg for programmers) while searching for PHP stuff–to the WP id/class post, and another, so I thought I’d check it out. I’m fairly new to WP, CSS, and PHP, but an old hand at UNIX, so I’m diving right in.

  13. I found you while searching for WP magazine layouts, as well. I downloaded the first release of Mimbo and had a lot of fun poking around under the hood. Mimbo really got me started with learning how to customize WP and to try new things. I’ve developed two WP sites for clients since then and I really couldn’t have done what I wanted to do with them if I hadn’t had Mimbo to learn from.

Good luck with Mimbo Pro. You’re a fine designer and I really enjoy your writing.

    Have a wonderful 2008!
