Rob Sheffield ‘Love is a Mix Tape’ Podcast Available

January 31, 2008 ( 1 )

Not that the saga’s a fascinating one, but if you recall the earlier post I made about my band’s involvement in the Rolling Stone/Camel cigarettes case, you’ll recall that I didn’t know how an unknown band like ours made it to a Camel advertisement in the first place.

Mystery revealed — our friend Rob, a Rolling Stone editor and writer, had leaked our name for what he probably assumed was a harmless promotional feature, but turned out to be a Camel endorsement. John from Nailgun interviewed Rob when he visited town to read from his book Love is a Mix Tape, and Rob gave this flattering quote:

Sheffield’s Charlottesville ties are still strong, and maybe that’s how local post-punkers Bucks and Gallants made it into a November Rolling Stone spread depicting the “Indie Rock Universe? (which has caused controversy for being coupled with Camel Cigarettes advertising). When we posed this to Sheffield, he laughed. “There are a lot of Bucks and Gallants fans, you know?? he says. “They played this phenomenal gig in Brooklyn [in 2006]. It was definitely the most fun that I had at any gig all that summer.?

But the real news is that CvillePodcast has done us all a service by providing a podcast of the book reading Rob did in town last week, which I had to miss on account of work. If you’re a fan of 90s rock nostalgia, college radio, Charlottesville miscellanea, or good old-fashioned tragic love stories, you will want to hear this.
