2008 Projects
Semester at Sea • Feb ‘08
If you watched Road Rules: Semester at Sea (you remember, when Veronica stole Pua’s shirt), you’ll remember that SAS is a global study program that takes place aboard a cruise ship. The redesign project involved a titanic (sorry) struggle to collaborate and negotiate with SAS’s large team over the period of a year, but the final product was a success. I handled design, strategy, markup, CSS and initial Joomla integration while Category 4’s production team built out the pages and additional apps.
nPulse Networks • Jan ‘08
This was a straightforward Joomla theme designed as a product showcase for nPulse’s latest packet capture device. Clean design, sweet product, happy client.
Columbus Labs • Feb ‘08
This client needed an attractive interface to help them publish their latest cutting-edge biology projects. The site used Wordpress in a number of creative ways, driving nearly every category of content. Bonus: the client was trusting and communicative and we both loved the finished product.

King George County, VA • Dec ‘07
This project required that myself, my project manager and our CEO put on suits and ties, travel to King George County and present our roadmap and design mockups to their city council. Quite a change of pace, but we managed to set them on the right path and create a robust Joomla-driven site that allows council members to edit loads of content.
Sony HDNA Campaign • Jul ‘07
Local and highly-successful electronics retailer Crutchfield brought us this project to promote Sony’s new HDNA line. The pressure was on, but we finished ahead of schedule and reps from both companies commented that it was among their best product showcase sites.
The Artful Lodger • Jun ‘07
This project was ideal, as it combined my favorite furniture store with my favorite photo site (Flickr) and favorite CMS (Wordpress). The result is a design that reflects the rich beautiful furniture while making life easy on the client by integrating custom image/slideshow plugins.
Category 4 • Apr ‘07
During this internal project for my employer, I got to experience how hard it is to be my own client. Lessons learned, I will do things differently next time, but I learned a lot of Wordpress in the process.
2006 Projects
Perfect Flavor • Dec ‘06
This was my first Ruby on Rails project working with a Ruby developer who is also a friend as well as a gourmet ice-cream entrepreneur. He asked for an edible-looking website and were happy with the results.
Borgo Finochietto • Jun ‘06
This custom Wordpress theme was intended to reflect the colors and textures of the old stone villas it advertised, while emphasizing photos in a creative way.
2005 Projects
Mamacitta • Jun ‘05
This was my first custom Wordpress theme that still exists in its original form. The client was a friend who sought to blog about healthy lifestyles and required a design that melded rich colors, Buddhism, yoga and our local Appalachian mountains.
SOCA • Feb ‘05
In the end, the client actually chose another mockup from this series, but I thought this version exhibited the best balance of color, texture and content. You can’t win ‘em all.
